McMahan Law Firm’s principal legal counselor, Attorney Van D. McMahan has been practicing law in Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi for 17 years. In 1990, Van graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a B.S.B.A in Business Management. He received a law degree from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama in 1997.
Van’s law practice began in Birmingham in 1997 with Burgess & Hale, L.L.C. At Burgess & Hale, his primary focus was insurance defense and general civil litigation. His practice consisted of litigation in federal and state courts throughout the Southeast.
Subsequently, Van was a managing partner with Gibson & McMahan, L.L.C., in Birmingham, Alabama. At Gibson & McMahan, his primary areas of practice were personal injury, worker’s compensation defense, and general litigation.
In 2002, Van moved his family “back home” to McNairy County and soon relocated his practice to historic downtown Selmer, as McMahan Law Firm. In 2006, Van was elected General Sessions and Juvenile Judge for McNairy County.
“Although I am General Sessions and Juvenile Judge, I also maintain my private practice of law at McMahan Law Firm. Over the past 17 years, I have practiced in several different areas of law with a wide range of clients.
I have represented corporations, insurance companies, banks, farming operations, municipalities, police departments, and individuals in various state and federal courts throughout Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi.
Allow me to put my years of experience, as an attorney and judge, on your side to assist you with your legal needs. I look forward to the opportunity to meet you.”
